Dear Ones

by Kendra Bozarth

dear Black women,
you are. always more
than what they tell you.
you are. bigger
than they think you can imagine.
you are. expansive
in your breath and steps.
you are. the essence
of where, why, how the wind blows.
you are. a living lesson
in what it means to free your flow.
you are. the patterns
in the paintings, the numbers, the redirecting clouds.
you are. the answer
to the choices they refuse to make.
you are. a song
that hums above the echoes.
you are. your own sun
who guides your own way.
you are. an apple
that knows its rooted trees.
you are. an eclipse
of she, they, me.
you are. everything and
no one’s but your own.
you are. more
than enough.
because
you are.
you.
