“close your eyes, make a wish”

by DuiJi Mshinda

trust yourself
listen to that inner voice
that whispers, keep going
ignore that other voice
the loud one
that asks, Why bother?
the nearest we come
to the divine
is in the harnessing
of creative energy
taking an idea
from vision to fulfillment
is the best way
to honor the gift
of inspiration
it’s OK to love
the world with your whole heart
an open heart
still needs strong boundaries
know and enforce your own limits
saying NO to others
is often the best way
to say YES to ourselves
be present.
now is our greatest gift
from the universe
among the suffering
injustice and inhumanity
we can still choose kindness
we can still move with intention
and curiosity
our parents
taught us how to walk
our children
remind us that
we can fly
