Wednesdays on the Stoop--Short Fiction and The Hero's Journey w/ Mary Berman

The Hero's Journey is a well known framework for long-form narratives, like novels and films. But how can it apply to more concise works, such as short stories? In this workshop, we'll briefly examine the basic beats of The Hero's Journey, analyze a (very) short story through this lens, and then use this material to craft short compelling narratives of our own.

Mary Berman (she/her) is a Philadelphia-based writer of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. Her work has been published in Fireside, PseudoPod, Shoreline of Infinity, and elsewhere, and she holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Mississippi, where she was a Graduate Excellence Fellow.
