Andrea A. Firth--The World of Literary Journals: How to Get Published

Registration is rolling until Friday, October 21st at 5pm. No application is required. $65 w/financial aid available to residents of Greater Philadelphia (Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia Counties)

You have an essay, short story, poem, or hybrid piece polished and ready to share with the world. But where? And how? Getting published in a literary journal isn’t like entering a lottery. It’s not a matter of chance or luck. Getting published is a process. Whether you are an experienced writer who wants to publish more, new to submitting and getting ready to send out your first piece or looking for new outlets for writing that is stalled, it’s the same process.

In this course you will learn the steps to follow and the tools and resources to use to submit and be accepted in literary magazines. Plus, you will gain the motivation and encouragement to get started, unstuck, and publishing more. We will create a clear and manageable plan for you to follow and introduce you to range of potential literary outlets for your writing. And there will be ample opportunity to ask questions.

Andrea A. Firth is a writer, editor, and educator based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Andrea has an MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Saint Mary’s College of California, and she was a finalist for the Missouri Review's 2021 Perkoff Prize in Nonfiction. You can read a selection of her essays and journalism at her website. Inspired by a handful of old family photos, Andrea is working on a collection of essays, which explores what's real and what's imagined and the hardship and happiness that lies in between.
