This workshop focuses on step-by-step revisions and will provide students with practical skills to prepare their drafts for publication. Participants will learn how to edit their own writing on levels ranging from individual word choice to the overall structure of the work. By the end of the workshop, each participant will have a polished short essay, article, or manuscript fragment—as well as close-reading techniques to use on future drafts. Student work will receive supportive, clinic-style care from an award-winning author. Writers across all genres are welcome; participants are encouraged to bring work in progress to class.

Anna Badkhen has published six critically acclaimed books of literary nonfiction, and her essays and short stories appear in publications such as the New York Review of Books, Granta, The Common, Scalawag, Guernica, the Paris Review, and the New York Times. Her awards include the Guggenheim Fellowship. Badkhen is a contributing editor to the Mānoa Journal.
